UDDAM - Red Cross Smarth Centre
Indian Red Cross Society, District Branch, Faridkot is always in the forefront for the welfare of the Disabled. It has achieved another milestone by establishing Uddam- Samarth Centre in collaboration with National Trust, New Delhi, (A statutory body under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India and set up under the National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation & Multiple Disabilities Act (Act 44 of 1999) in January 2008. At present 30 children/persons in age group 5 to 30 years are availing the care and multipurpose supportive facilities.

Facilities Available
Hostel
Boarding lodging facilities are available for 25 persons. Indoor games such as Carom Board, Chess, Ludo etc are provided for leisure time engagements.
Special Education
Education and training in the activities of daily living is being imparted.
Speech and Language Training
Children are being provided speech and language training to help them to improve their communication skills. Speech Therapist-Cum-Special Educator imparts speech training and speech therapy to children with speech, hearing and language problem.
Psychological Assessment
The psychological assessment of the children is being done with the help of Department of Psychologist, Govt. Medical College , Faridkot. A Psychologist is also assisting the institute on honorary basis.
Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy
Occupational therapy equipments and items such as therapy Ball, Magnetic Pegoard, Shoulder Wheel, Quadriceps table, Medicine balls, Goniometer, balance Board and different types of walker are available in the” Institute”.
Pre-Vocational Training
The children are exposed to training skills like cutting, pasting, folding etc. For preparing them to take up vocation trades such as file cover making, candle making, art and craft, drawing and painting etc.
Art & Cultural Training
Evening sessions are arranged for imparting training in cultural activities like music, dancing, skits, singing etc to nature them to take part in art and cultural competitions.
Yoga, Sports & Games
Yoga and prayer sessions are held in morning. Sports event such as shot put, long jump, races, soft ball, cricket etc. are also arranged under the guidance and supervision of special Educators and sports coaches
Joys Rides and Amusements
Some amusement items such as swings, ladder, sea-saw, sliders etc. have been installed for the activities.
Medical Checkup
Institute provides medical services under the supervision of a qualified medical specialist. The children with complicated medical problems are got examined form medical specialist of the Govt. medical college, hospital every Friday in clinical counseling meeting of the hospital.
Parents Counseling
The parents often face a psychological imbalance due to the presence of the disabled child in the family. The institute extends counseling services to the parent and other family members once in a fortnight
Celebrations of National Festivals & Family Get-To-Gathers
The National Festivals such as Deepavali, Lohri, Holi, Baisakhi etc are celebrated in the institute’s premises, Family get-to-gather of the children/persons of the institute are also arranged once a month.
Parents Association
Association of parents of the disabled children has been formed. Monthly meeting of the ‘Association’ are held on the last Saturday of the month
Guardianship
The institute is also making the parents aware about the guardianship rights of the disabled persons under National Trust Act, 1999.
INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE CENTRE
Twelve such centre have been set up at different places in the district to provide information to general public about the provisions of at National Trust Act, 1999
TRANSLATION OF BOOKLETS IN PUNJABI:
The institute with the help of local level committees has got translated five booklets of the National Trust form English to Punjabi.
RESOURCE AND REHABILITATION CENTRE:
The institute has taken an initiative in setting up of the Resource and Rehabilitation Centre in G.G.S Govt. medical college hospital, Faridkot. The committee comprising the medical and therapeutic specialists has been constituted which meets every Friday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the premises of medical hospital to provide treatment, counseling and rehabilitation services to the disabled persons.
